Two other possibilities for CD skipping (aside from crap on the disc) are: 1) The Defective Disc - what about a piece of dust that is pressed with the CD at the factory. Even thought CD's are produced in a clean room a pressing error is possible. Secondly, I can't tell with my eyes whether the pits on the CD form a perfect spiral at the point of skip. Maybe there was a defect in the pits, internal to the CD. 2) The Defective Tracking Circuit - the CD player tracks the spiral pits on the disc using a servo mechaninsm to maintain correct track position. The player could have been unable to produce enough servo voltage to move the laser to the "next" track at some point on the disc. Remember there aren't any grooves to keep the laser tracking correctly. Some players apparently track better than others. (By the way, this is the reason I think I get random blips (dropouts) when playing some discs. I think the player gets to a point where it just can't find the right track causing loss of signal. It then seems to correct the problem in a few milliseconds and returns the output signal to normal.)

As I`ve said, I`ve had one or two dropouts in 32 discs in 8 months. Wither (either) you`re really messing up your discs or your player`s misadjusted. Jeff
