#N:uo-vax1:2900007:000:1084 uo-vax1!gregs Dec 11 23:51:00 1983 I got a mailing yesterday from a place called "The Source." They claim to carry the entire gamut of stereo equipment (instead of just what a mail order company can buy in bulk and sell cheap), and to turn dealers away when they come knocking on the door. They say they do their own importing, and even sell American stuff (that is pretty rare among mail order I see). They want $15/year for a subscription to their bulletin of the latest low prices ($12 for first year), since they "don't want to raise the prices to pay for catalogs." The sample prices they presented were pretty good...Linn Sondek turntable for ~$750 (instead of $995, but soon to come down anyway). They even inserted a disclaimer about how you should buy the table locally if you don't know what you're doing (but my dealer says the warranty goes south if you set up the table yourself). Does anyone belong to The Source? I guess you can still buy from them without subscribing, but "only subscribers will have special rates..." It sounds OK, but I am cautious.
