[net.audio] Dirty transmitters

wjm@whuxj.UUCP (MITCHELL) (01/12/84)

The FCC requires operators of radio transmitters to operate on certain
radio frequencies, and to keep their transmitter outputs within those
frequency bands. Unfortunately, it costs GREEN STAMPS to provide RF
shielding, so many manufacturers of consumer electronics skimp on this
shielding. Therefore, even a clean transmitter will interfere with
this equimpent. If the transmitter is operating on its proper frequency,
it is the responsibility of the user of the receiving equipment to clear
up the problem. Often, a local ham can help you install shielding to
solve the problem. However, RFI problems can sometimes be tough to solve
and may require quite a bit of perserverance.
[I'm also posting this to net.ham-radio to give my fellow hams notice
that this discussion is going on on net.audio]
