Bob Carver is a great engineer. Not a good one, a great one. His ears, on the other hand, have always let me down. What sounds good to Bob has (in the past) never sounded right to me. BUT Bob has come up with some revolutionary circuits that has made the industry think twice about "conventional" bipolar/mosfet amplifier technology and FM reception. His "holographic" unit works, when properly set up, and creates some impressive acoustic illusions, although the top-end still seems a bit squashed. He has taken an approach with the "t" series mods to his preamp and power amp that I highly approve of. His approach at technically defining the differences that "golden ears" hear is encouraged. This is a topic that I've been promoting for quite a while and it's refreshing to see objectivity applied in defining subjectivity instead of just dismissing it as hype or some undefinable and unrepeatable hallucination. (Why has it taken so long?) I hope others in the audio industry take this approach seriously and apply what they learn to what they make. I hope that Bob publishes his observations in the JAES.
