[net.audio] Non-acceptance of CD players in homes

From Jeff Frey:

>CD players ... won't be offered for cars untile they're
>felt to be widely accepted for homes, which they
>are apparently not (so says Mitsubishi).

Of course they're not. I'd absolutely LOVE to have one, but I'll be
damned if I'm going to pay out $600-$1200 for it. The history of the
consumer electronics market is that products which gain eventual acceptance
tend to drop dramatically in price. Witness the VCR, whose price has
fallen to about half what it was just 4 years ago. Sorry, Mitsubishi!
I'm not going to fall for it again! You bring the price in line, and
I'll run right out and get one, cash on the barrelhead. However, I have
lots of patience. As for temperature being a problem for auto CD
players, it's no wonder, with all that hot air.
