[net.audio] For Non-Golden Ears Only

For all of you amazed at the analog vs. digital battle going on in this
newsgroup, this is my testimonial for CD's:

     (1) RUN RIGHT OUT AND FIND A CD PLAYER
I see a number of CD players falling into reasonable price ranges now:
         Example: NAD 5200 $648.00
A new YAMAHA CD player $799.00 list
A new slot load MITSUBISHI $599
TECHNICS a couple of them under $500
                  SEARS (who?) $449

     (2) For all of you non-golden ear types who like POP, etc...
and don't particularly care if the POLICE appear live in your
            living room...
RUN RIGHT OUT...CD's will make the biggest net increase in sound
quality for the least amount of money...
CD's sound "great" even through old, non-state of the art junk
     (3) Pop LP's sound like mush when compared to the CD version
The quality of pop pressings is so poor, that every pop CD I've
ever heard just clobbers the LP version...
            The reasons:
                   Increased bass clarity
Somewhat improved dynamic range (on the pop CD's)
No inner groove distortion or compression (my pet peeve)
No ticks, pops, or extraneous sounds (mold grain, etc.)
                   Increased instrument detail
Freedom of stress in tracking loud passages

      (4) I clean CD's by wiping them on my blue jeans, try that with your
          Sheffield's
