Oh, my... the hyper-objectivist and subjecto-objectivist are at each other's throats again. Before you begin open speculation on each other's lineage, why not state to the world your credentials? I'm sure all of us (at least myself) would like to know rabbit!jj's and Mr. Rastocny's (sp?) history in this hobby - present equipment - just how many CD players and analog systems each has listened to, and for how long at each sitting - and, of course, their professional specialty. This way we can determine for ourselves whether the aforementioned combatants are full of cr*p instead of having them tell us. I have been amused by rabbit!jj's tart rebuttals to Mr. Rastocny's impassioned postings for some time - but lately, their arguments have contained more character defamation than AUDIO OPINION. Mr. Rastocny, WHY do you pick on CD phase and not much else? Does `better' mean more like A PERFORMANCE YOU'VE HEARD LIVE, or like you think a live performance sounds like? rabbit!jj, what in your personal experience supports your opinions? I agree with the theory you quote but haven't heard much else. Define your terms! Define your assumptions! State your sources! I'm waiting... I too would like to hear the backgrounds of contributors to this group. As in audio, a reference is needed so that one might better evaluate what one is hearing. I have followed this news group for some time but have not, until now, posted anything to it. This is because I have not had anything useful to contribute. Opinions alone don't count! A background of classical music (6 years flute as a youth), audio and electronics (EE audio & broadcast comm- unications), and work in the audio industry (ran the service department for the Great American Sound Co.) as a bench technician, has taught me at least two things. First, unsubstantiated claims are useless. Unless you have the facts to back it up... forget it! Manufactures specs are a good example of this. Remember "Music Power", RMS power, peak power et all? Agree on the terms (jargon) used and state how you arrived at your conclusion. Second, shouting matches make noise, piss people off, and get everyone exactly nowhere. State your facts. Label opinions as such. Give references. If someone disagrees with you LISTEN CAREFULLY to their points. Exchange ideas. If you still disagree, getting mad and calling names will not change their point of view. Or yours! Differences of opinion make horse races. Don't get mad... make bet. But remember, it's not who you think will win that counts but who crosses the line first! Listening to recorded music means different things to different people. True reproduction of "live" music, critical listening, dance music, elevator music, the list go on and on. Please state what you are looking for when you sit down in front of your system. Knowing what you "like" and what your references are will help us better understand your point of view. Please do go on posting your thoughts. Fresh ideas are the meat and potatoes of progress. Save the flames for /dev/null. Bill Kanawyer {ucbvax,amd70,ihnp4,cbosgd,decwrl,fortune}!dual!bill
