In response to requests for a summary of answers regarding
Vacuum Tube Suppliers, here it is:

This sounds stupid but let us not overlook the obvious:
Radio Shack advertises that they can supply any of several 000
types. They don't carry them in their stores but they say they
can order them and get them fast. I recommend the Radio Shack in downtown
Red Bank if you deal with the manager. He is an allright guy.

I, along with many others I'm sure, have a stock of vacuum tubes (new and
otherwisw#e) residing in the basement. If you send me a list of your needs
I'll check the stock and see if### what I might have.

I have a catalog from "United Page". Judging from the types, quantities,
and prices of tubes they carry, it appears they're a surplus dealer.

You can write them at:

	United Page
	481 Getty Ave.
	Paterson, NJ 07503
	(201)279-7500 or (212)736-9351

Good luck!

	I bought a Tek RM45 (like a 545 but rack mount) a while back,
and it lost it's CRT during shipping, but I got to keep it. I'd be
glad to sell you any of the tubes in it for an incredible price, as
I don't really need them.

Several of the tubes (especially in the amplifiers) should
be "Tektronix checked". This isn't just a ploy to sell tubes, the
tubes have to be matched for grid leak and such factors. If you
don't have a curve tracer, or even a dynamic transconductance checker,
you can't do this yourself easily. I'll sell you the checked tubes,
and as many spares as you want. (I used to deal in Tek 'scopes, and
I still have ~400 6CB6 tubes from the *507* series!)

Thought: I'll sell you the whole chassis from the '45, if
you want it. It has most of the switches, resistors, etc., that
were originally on it, but no CRT. It is rather weathered, though.

<> I've seen a few requests lately for sources of vacuum (receiving)
tubes. I did a reasonably extensive search last fall for sources for
audio uses, and found one company I'm quite happy with. They have low
prices, fast delivery, a large stock list, and low prices. They have
Sylvania/Phillips tubes, and probably others, and also semiconductors.
This company is Transleteronic Inc., 1365 39th St., Brooklyn, NY,
11218. Two typical prices are 6L6GC $5.25; 12AX7A $2.64.
Another company (which I haven't bought tubes from) is ETCO
Electronics, North Country Shopping Center, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901.
They say they have a very large tube inventory, and publish a large
list.

Guitar Player magazine always contains ads for vacuum tubes --
especially those likely to be found in guitar amps, even
old and obscure ones. The companies usually claim to either
sell matched sets that they have rigorously checked out, and
to weed out less-than-optimal performers. I believe at least
one of the companies claims to have their tubes custom-manufactured
to their own specs. Some of the tubes have extra features, such
as gold-plated pins. The companies that come to mind are
"Groove Tubes," "Mesa Engineering" and "Peavey Electronics."
See an issue of the mag for addresses & details. (Available
at any music store or good newsstand).
