[net.audio] how bad is a second set of speakers?

I have seen quite a bit of discussion about multiple speakers in
a listening room. Although there has been a lot of talk and
discussion of personal experiences, I have not seen that anybody
has done any experiments with it. Has anyone, including
Linn-Sondek, done any measurements of frequency response in a
room with and without extra drivers?

Although I believe that there is some effect, I do find it silly
to believe thata a 4" driver can affect bass response more than all the
other acoustic effects in a room combined. I use two pairs of speakers
with my system because I live in a dorm room with a rather terrible
environment. I haven't tried moving one of the pairs out, but I
have found that running both of them together creates a warmer
tone, as well as better stereo imaging throughout the
room. Seems to me that charges stored in the capacitor due to
induced vibrations in the woofer would be minimal compared to
those supplied by the amp.(Note- my roomate is also a non-Golden Ears
audiophile, and he finds the second pair a definite improvement
	also.:-)
