I have a very old pair of AR3a speakers which are somewhat the worst for wear. In particular the rheostats in the back are totally shot, so some speakers don't work. Has anyone had any experience with having AR speakers repair? If so please share it with me. Is it possible (and resonable) to ship the speakers to AR for repair, and if so, does anyone have an address. Are there firms which do this sort of work, and if so, how does one go about picking one? I am happy enough with these speakers to have them repaired rather than buying "state-of-the-art" replacements, provided the repair cost is not exorbitant. thanks Jeff Hillis ihuxf!jhillis

Ask them for a list of authorized repair shops in your locale (wherever that is). An authorized repair shop is more likely to use original equipment parts. In my experience some repair shops will try to replace speaker components with whatever they have on hand that seems to fit the bill. You may wind up with speakers that don't sound the way they should if different crossovers and and/or different drivers are used in any repair work. From what I know of the model 3 speakers they are probably worth repairing. -- Gary Wasserman ...harpo!inmet!grw ...hplabs!sri-unix!cca!ima!inmet!grw ...yale-comix!ima!inmet!grw
