This is just a suggestion as to why digital watches were
to be left outside the listening room during the speaker
test.
Perhaps it was felt that those squeeks and Dixie melodies
that occur on the hour might distract from the real music.
It sure bothers me during a class or colloquium when everyone's
watch goes off over the space of a couple of minutes.
