I find it hard to believe that the opening bass note would be missing
from any high-fidelity recording of Strauss's "Also Sprach Zarathustra"
which was made by a reputable orchestra.

On the other hand, "Also Sprach Zarathustra" is also well-known to the
movie audiences as "The Theme From 2001," and there are many records
around that contain various bastardizations of Strauss's music. Some
of these may lack the base note (and much else).

that bass note may have been there, but after a few hits from a
cartridge, it probably won't stay there! the note is something on the
order of a 64 foot pedal for an organ. there are probably a few places
that decided that might be too much work in return for having the record
trashed by an inconsiderate turntable. on an audiophile record, i would
suspect that the engineer would be shot if it wasn't put on the vinyl,
but for public consumption, who would notice?
