[net.audio] Turntables in cars !!!!!

uchuck@ecsvax.UUCP (04/03/84)

Why, Why, Why, and Why !!! Turntables in automobiles were tried in the
1960's but failed miserably. Besides, although you can't get the
information off of tape that can be retrieved off record, in an automobile
tape is the prefered mode of storage/retrieval. If you just want to do it
for the novelity of it, I believe Fosgate Inc. has a preamp - amplifier
combination with sufficient gain to amplify a MM phono cartridge (the
power amplifier, by the way, is 100 watts/channel into 4 ohms).

If you don't mind waiting a few months and can tolerate digititis, I
understand that there will be several offerings of Compact Disc units
for the automobile. But still a good tape unit and accompanying hardware
is probably as good for the automobile enviroment and one H--- of a lot
cheaper.
