Could we get some discussion on this?  As I see it, if you feed an ideal
signal into a section with 3% distortion, then into an ideal section, you
have 3% distortion (of whatever type).  If you feed an ideal signal into an
ideal section, then into a section with 3% distortion, you have 3%
distortion.  It would seem that what you want to do is to improve wherever
you get the greatest relative improvement for your bucks.

[Yes, I know - there are different types of distortion, and some types tend
to get reduced in processing while others get amplified or go weird on you,
but let's talk first-order effects where possible.]
