I called Warner Brothers records when I was down in L.A. last month, and they said that a new Roches release was set for August. The new album is supposed to be called "ANOTHER WORLD" If their show at the Country Club last year was any indication, their new material should be fantastic. The 10 songs or so that they "previewed" were the best songs I've ever heard from them. As somewhat of a reaction to the massive incorporation of synthesizers into modern pop music, the Roches have responded by bringing in a cheezy "casiotone" dime-store synthesizer to accompany their new songs. The result is absolutely hilarious, especially the songs with tacky marimba beats percolating under their beautiful harmonies. The two songs that stuck in my mind the most were "Summertime" a bouncy summer song, and a cover of that song that goes, "Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain.." Anyway, keep an eye out for it - it should be worth the wait! And at almost 3 years since their last album, "Keep on doing," they just might beat Kate Bush for the "Longest gap between albums" award.
