Most manufacturers recommend just wiping the business side of the CD with a soft lint-free cloth. I think they specifically recommend that record cleaning solutions *not* be used. This makes a lot of sense, since you want to preserve the optical properties of the disc surface, rather than its topographic features. Something I think I'll try is wiping them with the solution used to clean plastic eyeglass lenses. However, I haven't had any need so far to go beyond routine care. If you handle a CD carefully, like a good camera lens (i.e., keep yer fingers off it), it should not need cleaning with solvents. -- Bob Fishell ihnp4!ihu1g!fish

... Being an owner of a tape deck for many years, I would recommend cleaning your tape decks heads and rollers with alcohol and a Q-Tip. My Nakimichi has performed faithfully under these circumstances for the last 8 years. I would also recommend demagnetizing the heads frequently also. iwu1d!grd Garry Daly AT&T -Technologies
