C With reasonable quality analog discs surface noise should not be a problem. The culprit is usually the care given to the discs. I do not use liquids ( why just push the dirt around and transfer it from record to record ? ), but use one of the multi-fiber cleaning brushes. Mine is from Goldring and has lasted a bit over five years, to this point. If a record is purchased and has surface noise, I return it for trade. If the next record has the same problem, I request a trade for a different record. I also use a battery operated deionizer before playing and before putting the record back into the jacket. The original jacket is tossed when the record is played for the first time and is cleaned very thoroughly before the first play. The replacement jacket is a plastic/paper combination available at most record stores for about fifteen to twenty cents. I have been accused of using "special records" when others have listened to the system. They, from past experience, find the lack of surface noise ( at listening levels of ~85-90db ) quite unbelievable. I anyone wants details on the equipment used, reply to myself. If enough requests are received, I will post the information to the net.
