I am interested in getting a walkman type cassette player with Dolby. Sony WM-10 seems reasonable. Any comments? Does anybody knows of a better player in this category. Does any player come with a recharger? Any info in this matter will be appreciated. Thanks, -- Yosi Hoshen Bell Laboratories Naperville, Illinois (312)-979-7321 Mail: ihnp4!ihuxn!jho

If bucks permit, look into the Walkman Pro WDM-6 (dolbyB) and WDM-6C (dolby B and C). These run around $240 to $270 mailorder but are really professional units. They record as well as play back and you can make really good recordings. I have used the -6 for over a year, now with excellent results. Recorded a dual piano concert two weeks ago with a radio shack electret mike on each shoulder. Sounds great (but wait till you hear where I snore!!). I would buy the -6C now for only a few bucks more. hound!rfg

I finally auditioned both the Walkman 10 (and F10), and Toshiba KT-AS1. I chose the Toshiba because it sounded significantly better. Also, the headphones that come with the 10 fit "in" the ear, which I found painful. A co-worker with the 10 replaced the 'phones after a month or so for that reason. The Toshiba comes with an AM/FM Tuner Pack, external battery pack, and belt carrier. It is larger than the Sony (and heavier), but small compared to the units of just a couple of years ago. It runs on 3 volts instead of 1.5, so the batteries last longer. It seems to be significantly more speed stable with motion, and would play my softly recorded tapes louder. I don't intend to destroy my hearing with the thing, but I like the fact that there is more "headroom" for the peaks. All in all, I'm quite happy with my choice. I paid about $150, and later saw the same unit mail-order for about $95. Needless to say, I recommend mail-order. Alan Gant, CONVEX Computer Corporation {uiucdcs,allegra,ihnp4}!convex!gant
