I don't know if this will help but on some of the Technics tuners and receivers you have to put three AA batteries into the back of the unit, otherwise they forget what stations they were preset to. Michael Bishop hplabs!hpfcla!mike

[] Help!!! I have a Kenwood digital tuner that has a very annoying problem. If the unit is not used for three or more days, all my presets are gone and I have to reset them. Is this a simple solution to this problem? I'm at the brink of moving up to a new tuner (suggestions welcome). -- Robert A. The Kenwood has a "non user-serviceable" NiCad battery for backup to the preset's memory. If this NiCad is defective, you would lose the presets memory. Herman Silbiger CGE

Your presets are kept in a non-volatile memory, probably a CCD type. These devices eventually lose their charge and erase themselves unless they are periodically refreshed. The instructions that came with my Yamaha t-760 tuner stated that they'd last two or three weeks without refreshing. Apparently yours aren't as long-lived. Now, do you switch on the receiver with its own power switch, or do you use an external switch connected to the power cord, say, a switched outlet on another component? It might make a difference, since some devices keep a trickle of power available for non-volatile memory, e.g., MOS memories, even when the device is switched off. Unplugging it, however, will cut off even that small trickle, and your presets will disappear. -- Bob Fishell ihnp4!ihu1g!fish

This may seem obvious, but how are you powering the unit off? If you are using a master power switch (such as in some of the audio cases I've looked at), perhaps you are cutting off the AC power to the unit that maintains the presets. -- roger long pertec computer corp {ucbvax!unisoft | scgvaxd | trwrb | felix}!pertec!bytebug
