                   Tubes                     Transistors
                   =====                     ===========

Typical distortion is not objectionable typical distortion is very
                                            objectionable

very easy to maintain absolute and almost impossible.
coherent phase accuracy. takes an exceptional designer.
this does wonders for 3d immaging

power costs much money and weight extra power is trivial

                                            for the same price, almost
                                            without exception, a better
                                            transistor unit can be made.

very good in midrange on up. almost always best in (tight
soggy bass. and dry) bass, midrange ++
                                            tends twards sharp and twangy.

P.S. Try the Robertson Forty-Ten for an example of a really good
Transistor amplifier, although it is a little poor in the bass.

And some of the Audio Research are very good examples of the best of
the tube side of the arguement.
