On a rather mundane note, I am interested in purchasing a cassette recorder in the $200 - $250 range. Primarily I will be using it to record music and other noise for listening to in my car. I am concerned with wow and flutter (which is the only thing I know for sure that my ears can detect - I have not fully field tested my ears), and I am also concerned with head life (recording not my). I also like to hear high notes once in a while. So I should spend more, right? Does anyone out there have any ideas. Perhaps someone could point me to a particular issue of Audio or Stereo Review dealing with the lower end of cassette decks. I have read a few articles in some old issues but they primarily dealt with more expensive equipment. I am basically a neophyte in this area.
