[net.audio] Minimus 7's and Homemade Speakers

I can heartily second the recommendation on the net for the
Radio Shack Minimus 7's. I've been eyeing them closely for
a couple years at the $49 price. At $29, they are a steal.
I bought a pair, if I could afford it, I would buy another.
They won't handle gobs of power or reproduce earthquake
rumblings, but they have nice imaging.
Some of you may remember a flurry of messages about
speaker building about a year ago. Well, I've built a
pair of honestly excellent speakers. The cost was $400
for materials, and about 150 hours of research and labor.
Just a warning for those contemplating the same feat:
stay away from Speakerlab drivers. It's true they publish
Thiele-Small parameters, unfortunately there seems to be
no relation between the published figures and those of the
actual drivers. For example, the "identical" 10 inch drivers
I bought had QTS of .29 and .41, making it impossible to
obtain a matched response. The best sources of drivers that I
am aware of are JBL, Dynaudio, Audax, SEAS, and Peerless, in
roughly that order of quality.
Has anybody else on the net built any speakers? I would
enjoy exchanging experiences.
