I'm in the market for a new receiver. In the last month or so I have been seriously considering the new Carver Receiver, featured on the cover of the June issue of Audio. The problem: it retails for $749. I have heard rumors of bargain stereo places in Pennsylvania selling it for around $560, but don't have an address. There was one in the Sunday Oregonian for $525 (used), but it was sold (Saturday night!) before I called. So: (1) Does anyone know where I can get a Carver Receiver for (relatively) cheap? The only place in the Portland area that carries them is Chelsea Audio, and they seem to want full price. (2) Can anyone recommend some other excellent receiver for not too much? 50W/channel minimum, 75+ preferred. I have looked at a JVC that Super Stereo Stores is selling for $279 and it seems like a reasonable deal (Class A amp, digital presets, autoscan, etc.). It's my #2 choice at present. Howard A.
