<chewy, chewy> Right On, Greg Paley! I've had the same experience with the Mastersound recordings, and found that they were the same noisy CBS product. Frankly, I suspect its an attempt by CBS to capture the higher priced "digital" market. Their marketing department saw the success of Telarc, et.al in selling audiophile recordings at higher prices. What CBS has yet to learn is that QUALITY is what determines an audiophile recording, not whether an analog or digital or no (direct-to-disk) master tape is used, nor what the glossy packaging says. Frankly, I don't expect tolerable CD's from them given their multi-mike recording techniques and horrible quality control. I've also heard that CBS is not accepting returns from record stores on defectives any more, which is rather disappointing given the fact that they have the worst defect rate of any label (my personal experience only). (of course this is my personal opinion, and is not necessarily shared by my employer). Bill Mitchell (whuxl!wjm)
