I've sort of stumbled across what might be a reasonable firm selling some
high-end audio components and accessories. (If that seems self-contra-
dictory, read on!) I'd like to share what I found and ask for any other
info.
I was looking for a source for gold-plated RCA jacks to replace those on
the phono inputs to my preamp. Audio had an ad for "DB Systems" in NH.
A request for info produced an interesting line of various accessories
along with some well-written literature, along the lines of tech notes.
They're happy to sell you gold-plated connectors, and they explain why
they're a good idea, but they also explain the mechanism of mechanical
connections and the limitations of precious-metal connectors.
Response to a mail order for some odds and ends was amazing - 8 days from
when I mailed the order to receiving it via USPS. I requested some
additional literature with the order. This, too, was well-written. Among
other things, they took on topics like the correct positioning of fuses in
output circuitry, the non-significance of "transmission line" speaker
cables (hello, Bill Mitchell?), amplifier-power mythology (the case of the
omitted logarithm), and the like.
So far, I can recommend what I've seen as sensible and responsible. Anyone
have any other experience to report?
