You think you had it bad, I had to take back 12 copies of
La Traviota before I could even get it on my turntable!
And even then I had to go out and buy a Beocenter XW350p to
play them they were so warped. And the jackets! The jackets were
so dust laden that I had to get a Ronko record vacuumer to keep
the damn things clean. The torture never ends - they must have
cretins in the printing department, the mixture of of pigments on the cover
was superfluously atrocius. I had to go into the stockroom before I good
get a decent cover. There just ain't no justice for people of
our taste.

I also went through three or four shots at Columbia's version of
La Mer. Fool that I am, I tried again in order to get a recording
of Glenn Gould performing some pices from *The Well-Tempered Clavier*.
I had to try several copies of it as well and what I wound up with
is pretty poor.

Suprisingly, I had to return two Phillips recordings last time I
bought records. The surfaces of both were fine, but they were badly
warped. Since I've never gotten a bad Phillips record before, I just
chalked the experience up to the heat (the heat gets blamed for
everything in Texas).

Has anyone had any especially good or bad experiences with pre-recorded
classical cassettes? I've been impressed by the quality of some of the
latest DG offerings--any other opinions?

I had the same problem with La Mer. I went through 5 copies before finding
one with only one or two minor problems. I'll think long and hard before
going through that again. Next time it goes back and I buy someone elses
recording of the piece.
