Those who, like me, are about to rush out and throw $18 or more
at T$S (The $ensible Sound) please be advised of the following
information.
1) The reviews and editorials are all written by Phil Rastocny (or
at least they sound like it).
2) Unless you can blow $$$ for loud speakers, etc. save your money.
(Yes, they have come out 4-square for the Shure V-15MR as being the
ab$olute be$t cartridge in the world, bar none, but they ju$t did
that to prove they were far out.
3) You are going to have to learn to live with descriptions perhaps
better suited to describing works of art than technical stuff (no
more db's and %IM(IHF-SMPTE). In other words, whatever you think of
the new look in our old beloved Stereo Review, this is the other
end of the earth from Julian Hirsch.
4) You will also learn that if you use one of their subscription forms
they give you a choice of which issue to start with. The LATEST choice
is two issues old, so you will get half of a year's subscription back
by return mail.
5) I was going to ask for my money back, or at least half of it, but then
I thought, ...what the hell. Its a benevolent group, very laid back and
sort of relaxed and maybe I'll enjoy all this fantasy. I'm an inveterate
reader of Science Fiction but don't usually enjoy Fantasy. However,
I
like to think I can still learn.
6) They consider CD's beneath their official notice and try hard to
ignore them. You will learn from them about CD's the same thing you
have learned from ...those Sheffield Record Guys. Pure, unadulterated,
vested-interest BS.
7) Their current featured speaker is Bill Mitchells, so they can't be all
bad. I think it is sold direct from the factory-no distributors. Ask
Mitch for a demo. (Boy am I wild today,m wish I could say why).
8) Stop beating the horse, Grantges.
9) o.k.
