<let them eat rumble, wow and flutter - hiss> In the past, the positioning of speakers has been somewhat dictated by the contingencies of room configuration and decorating. If one were able to create more ideal conditions, what would be the most desirable speaker-listener placements? Many thanks - Dewayne

If one >were able to create more ideal conditions, what would be the most >desirable speaker-listener placements? There are several factors that you have to consider. In order of importance: Where does the speaker manufacturer recommend they be placed? If you put Klipschorns anywhere but in a corner, they flatly won't work. If you put Acoustats flat against a wall, they won't work. See what the speaker manufacturer says about the properties of the speaker; this overrides all else. What does the room dictate? This isn't a decorating question; it's a question of room dimensions and acoustic reflectance. Where do you sit (usually) and what do you expect? Speaker positioning has perhaps the strongest effect on bass (response and uniformity), and you can manipulate it. -- Dick Dunn {hao, ucbvax, allegra}!nbires!rcd (303)444-5710 x3086 ...Are you making this up as you go along?
