I agree with Bill Mitchell - the $ensible Sound is a very useful rag, and agrees with my philosophy about audio, therefore it's good and wonderful. I also agree with Mr. Granges(sp?) - the audio cowboy blather is a touch irritating, but at least they seem to be consistent in their jargon. Absolute Sound tends to use grammatically opposed phrases for the same phenomenon in different reviews and with different reviewers. The reviews in TSS are very useful as a relative gauge of performance. If you know what one of their references sounds like, you can rate what they're testing fairly easily, since they live with components for a very long time and constantly cross-reference. These guys are sincere, many of them have unimpeachable technical credentials, and they sometimes do bench tests. I've subscribed to TSS for 2 years now and have always been entertained if not always informed by the magazine. By the way, with the latest issue the reviewers are beginning to like CD players. One vehement opponent heard the Yamaha CD-X1 and was swayed. He apparently hasn't heard the NEC, Revox, or Meridian yet, and I'll be interested to hear what he says about CD then.
