# What Noise Annoys a Noisy Oyster? -- song title, Bonzo Doo Dah Dog Band A dismal universal hiss, the sound of public scorn. -- Milton, Paradise Lost [1667] My serious offer for the amp is $100 (one hundred), which is about the used value of the amplifier section in my "run-of-the-mill" NAD receiver. It undoubtedly "sounds" just as good at levels less than the threshold of pain. You know, the Japanese are fond of technological curiosities for their worth as antiques (i.e. Harley motorcycles, Macintosh tube amps), so you might get a better offer from the land where stylish audio is king. As with any distressed goods, the basic question is why the item is for sale. In this case, it just couldn't be the price/performance ratio, could it? I'm guessing that it must have a high junk value for the 24K gold wiring. Or perhaps it must be able to drive not only inefficient speakers, but an automobile as well. Does the car come with it? -- James A. Woods {hplabs, hao, philabs}!ames!jaw (jaw@riacs.ARPA)

After your many submissions I'm curious about what you decided to own. Now to all you who get caught up in the price of things; it's no skin off your nose if someone wants to buy a gold plated MIL-SPEC system. It certainly won't sound worse than the cheaper stuff and it will probably last forever. As an owner of Crown equipment I can tell you that I'm glad that it is sturdy and has survived all the moves I've made since I bought it. The stuff still looks and sounds like new. -Shaun
