I just purchased a sheffield cd and in reading the booklet, it mentioned something about using a cd player that compensates for the "11.34 microsec" channel delay that occurs in digital recording.... Can anyone provide further info on this? I've got a yamaha cd-x1 and can't see anything in its manual or technical specs about this delay. Does anyone know which model cd players have this compensation feature? Thanks in advance. Jim Hoo Teltone Corporation

The sampling rate for CD is 44.1 KHz, so the sampling period is 22.48 microsecond. Some CD players use a single DAC, which is switched between the left and right channels. When the DAC is shared this way, the period for the DAC becomes 11.34 microsecond. This switching technique causes an inter-channel phase shift. As for Yamaha cd-x1, I don't know if it has the appropriate "compensation". I do know that there is only 1 DAC in Sony and Mitsubishi players. Revox, Marantz, and Kyocera use 2 DACs (1 per channel). munch munch Jim Hoo, If you see this, I tried to reply to your posting on Sheffield CD's, but our auto path finder messed up and it came back with "unknown host". It got as far as teltone!tikal but crashed at "cholula". If you'll reply to this, maybe our path finder will be able to reply to that correctly. Thanks, Fred Armentrout tektronix!tekig1!fredar
