#R:pyuxqq:-65900:uiucdcsb:5700058:000:817 uiucdcsb!faiman Sep 19 10:01:00 1984 I recently auditioned a collection of walkabout radio/tape players: Sony, Aiwa, Toshiba, and another brand that I forget. I wanted a unit with AM and FM, a ferric/chrome tape switch and Dolby-B, oh and low enough flutter to permit listening to instrumental music. My somewhat biased views: The Aiwa J-300 (or some such number) is the best. Very good sound and controls; needn't unplug radio to play tape; has telescoping antenna. But is large. Not the machine to get if small size is important. NY discount price approx $110. The Toshiba KTAS-10 is the cutest -- since my wife wanted something small, that's what I bought her. Is about the size of a cigarette pack; sound not quite as good as Aiwa; radio cartridge is removed to play a tape; fits comfortably in a shirt pocket. NY discount price about $100.
