...saw both versions of Depeche Mode's "People are People" the other night. In a nutshell, we are not impressed. One wonders what all the fuss (concerning this band) is about... ...Stanley Clarke's cover of "Born in the USA" is novel and different... ...rumor has it that Chick Corea is starting a new band; anyone know details on this? ...the Beach Boys have a new single. It's just like all their other singles, which are just like all their other singles. One can only hope that they'll realize this and give it up; although other folks *have* made careers out of re-writing the same song over and over (Laura Branigan and Bryan Adams come to mind as recent examples)... ...why is it that Don Henley and Glenn Frey are doing so much better material now then when they were in the Eagles? Compare "Smuggler's Blues" or "Driving with Your Eyes Closed" or "Dirty Laundry" with "Lying Eyes" and some of the other (more recent) Eagles' material. Feh. Now, I'm not saying that the Eagles went to hell in a handbag; after all, there's the stuff off Desperado, and "Already Gone" and "Life in the Fast Lane"; but somehow, Messrs. Henley and Frey are playing with a fire unknown in recent Eagles work... ...and finally, Dead Or Alive's "You spin me round" is one of the silliest, stupidest songs I've ever heard (or seen, in the case of the video). What a waste of vinyl... Now...where's my Stevie Ray Vaughan tape? -- Rich Kulawiec rsk@{pur-ee,purdue}.uucp, rsk@purdue-asc.csnet rsk@purdue-asc.arpa (soon to be) rsk@asc.purdue.edu
