I just received the October issue of AUDIO magazine, which lists specs and prices for over 3700 pieces of equipment. I decided to construct a system similar to mine, optimizing for maximum and minimum price. No effort was made to match components, nor do I make any claims for the quality of a given component. I just wanted to see what the cheapest and most expensive systems would be (price wise). I thought the result was interesting enough to share. equipment cheapest price most expensive price Tuner Vector Research 110 Sequerra Model 1 5000 VU-1200 broadcast analyzer Cassette deck Sanyo RPS18 110 Revox B710 MKII 1999 Open reel deck AKAI GX-4000D 400 Nagra T-Audio 12000 Turntable BSR 82SX 60 Goldmund Reference 10900 tonearm included 0 Goldmund T3 2800 cartridge Realistic R25XT 20 Kiseki Lapus 3500 Preamp Hafler DH100 kit 150 Perfectionist 52563 Audio Pretentious One Amp Fujitech A501 299 Esoteric Audio 20000 Research 529 (mono - 10000x2) Equalizer Realistic 31-1989 60 Sony Esprit SE-P900 1750 Speakers AudioSource LS8 50 Guss System 1 50000 (each - 25x2) Monitor (weight 830 lbs) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Total 1259 160512 There were 2 speaker entries that I think must have been a put-on: Manuf/model Lirpa Labs SOL 1 Maverick Audio MAM-I design type solar Concrete Horn woofer (inches) 3.14 E9 60 midrange (inches) 3.14 E3 4.5x17 (10) midrange type solar ES tweeter (inches) 3.14 tweeter type solar helium plasma Frequency response DC-light 12-100000 +/- 2 SPL -50 Crossover Freqs none 40, 700 Impedance nominal/min 10k/0 Dimensions varies with season 11 pieces w/6 amps Finish well oiled rosewood Weight (lbs) none 5000 Price free 50000 Raan Young (hp-pcd!raan)
