[net.audio] The missing part of Phil R's system

rcd@opus.UUCP (Dick Dunn) (09/25/84)

PHIL! You forgot something! You forgot to tell us about the most
important part of the system.

Hint: If you're like most of us, it's the most expensive part (possibly
barring the specially constructed room).

What about the media?

No, I'm not kidding. What sort of music do you play on this system? Do
you have any particularly fine examples of that music?

You see, if someone asks about my audio system, I may say a few special
things about my preamp or amp, both of which I think sound exceptional and
are fine pieces of engineering besides. But when it comes to talking about
the real "system as a whole" I'm probably more interested in telling them
about the amazing work with the Beast on Dafos, or what a strange
collection there is on Seastones, or perhaps letting someone listen to very
unusual versions of Positively 4th Street and The Harder They Come from the
Live at Keystone album recorded in 1975.

I'd gladly go for a system that cost 20% less before I'd do without some of
the albums and tapes I have today.

I have it from reliable sources that Phil R prefers the fine music
of "The 101 Strings Orchestra," with Liberace ranking a close second.
Just kidding! (-:

Horrors! NOONE can know that you're kidding when you misspell "smiley
face" symbolically (reference: "A Primer on How to Work With the Usenet
Community", Chuq Von Rospach, net.announce.newusers, <350@cbosgd.UUCP>)

Anyway, I have it on better authority that Phil R really prefers
"Sun Ra's Greatest Hits".
