[net.audio] Nakamichi, Teac cassette questions

grj@tellab3.UUCP (Gary Jenkins) (10/21/84)

I am in the process of purchasing a cassette deck and have run across two
decks that look particularly interesting. Both decks have strengths and
weaknesses, and I flip-flop from day to day on which has the most going for
it. Since both decks have different features and price ranges, perhaps
a direct comparison is not possible. However if anyone has any information
on either deck, either from first-hand experience or any other channel
I would welcome it. Below are the two decks with a list of features that
first caught my eye.

Nakamichi RX-505 (list ~ $1050)

Auto-Reversing with care taken not to disturb azimuth (unidirectional auto-
    reverse)
  Three head (monitor capability)
  Audible cueing
  Auto Fader
Frequency response that is flat out to 20 KHz with Dolby C (at least if you
believe reviews in High Fidelity and Stereo Review)

Teac V-900X (list ~ $800)

  Microphone inputs
  Three head
Auto Fader with continuously variable fade time
  Real time tape counter
  dbx

I also welcome any views on the effectiveness/drawbacks of dbx.

				Thanks,
