With the amount of current discussion concerning Digital Audio Disks (DADs) on the rise, I would like to propose that a sub-group be created, net.audio.cd. This new group might(should) try to contain itself to matters of intelligent reviews and recommendations concerning current and new DAD releases and new machines as they become avaliable to the listening public. As far as the discussion (aurguments) concerning the benefits or drawbacks of DADs or vinly, this could continue in the sub- group, but with the following qualification (insight): It seems that to compare the sound of analog disks to that of DADs is comparing apples and oranges: even in a double blindfold test the difference in taste is very apparent. The same will hold true when comparing DADs to vinyl; as soon as the stylus transmits the analog information the background and surface noise are a dead give-away of the origin of the signal source. Please keep this in mind when comparing the relative merits of either format. Above all keep the conversations intelligent.

I don't think that there should be a separate newsgroup for digital audio. Whether we like it or not, in the next few years, digital audio will be mainstream and having it out on its own prevents it from being a forum for discussion that may head off on tangents. If there is a news group created, I would vote for net.audio.digital as the name. Herb Chong... I'm user-friendly -- I don't byte, I nybble....
