Is there any danger to your car stereo system operating it in the cold winter months. I am from Florida and all this white stuff that falls from the sky is still new to me. I don't think ( don't know), it can hurt the radio...But I am concerned with the tape deck. Thanks in advance. David Roth ...decvax!pur-ee!isrnix!pugsly Indianapolis, IN

Most car stereo manufacturers who publish any spec on temperature state that the ambient temperature in the car should be 60 deg F or better. (Blaupunkt, Pioneer, etc..) On a cold morning, I would recomend waiting for the car to warn up inside before inserting a tape. There is no problem with playing the radio in the mean time. By playing a tape when the deck is too cold, you are putting stress on the motor and belt. D. Telson (4 year veteran stereo tech)

I have never had a problem. In fact, if anything, the summer heat is probably worse for tapes than winter cold.

Although I *do* have one of the lesser-priced car units, when the temperature falls below about 20 degrees (F), tapes will not play or will frequently jam. This is, in this case, due to the inexpensive lubricants used. Once the interior is warmer, everything's just fine again. It just proves that you only get what you pay for!
