[net.audio] Want Info on Integrated Amps

nkn@asgb.UUCP (11/12/84)

I am soliciting recommendations for an integrated amplifier. My
current system consists of a Leach LNF-1A power amp, a Hafler 101A
pre-amp (I think that's the number), a Yamaha 810 (820?) tuner
and Infinity RS-b speakers. I have decided that its time to upgrade
the amp and pre-amp. (For those of you who would tell me to start
with my speakers, thanks -- those will go some time.) I've decided
I want an integrated amp because I want the convenience of shutting
down the system with one power button, rather than turning off the
pre-amp, waiting for the music to die (usually 3 or 4 seconds) and
then turning off the amp. (Please, no flames about how lazy I am.)

My requirements are (I hope) simple. I currently need inputs for
one tape deck, one turn table and one tuner. Within the next year
I expect to purchase a CD player and a Hi-Fi VCR, so I need inputs
for these too. I only have one set of speakers, but "A B" outputs
would be nice. A headphone plug would also be nice. I am less
interested in the power output of the amp than I am in quality
music. I am happy with the Yamaha tuner, but if you think I can
do better with a whole new receiver, I am receptive to those
comments as well. I would like to keep the price under $1000,
but this shouldn't be a problem from what I've seen.

I went out looking a couple of days ago, and these are the units
I saw:
Carver Receiver (no model number, apparently)
	Tandberg TIA 3012
	Yamaha A-700 and A-1000
	Denon PMA-737
	Denon DRA-550 receiver
	harmon/kardon PM660

I would appreciate any comments/recommendations you can make on these or
any that I missed. As usual, please mail your replies to me. I will
summarize when the comments stop coming.

Thanx,
Neil Nelson
