A friend of mine told me that McIntosh Laboratory (one of the high-end
outfits rumoured to be in financial straits) is, and has always been,
wholly owned by Sony.  I have been familiar with the Mac line now for
almost 20 years and have never heard this before.  Can anyone
confirm/deny this?

Also, any word on the financial status of the ailing companies? 
McIntosh, Acoustat, and Mark Levinson, come to mind.  I don't know
about Mac, but the other two had exhibits at the most recent CES, so
they may be down but not out.

As long as someone was talking about Mac, do they still send their
FM directory out free for the asking?  It was a GREAT book, but I 
don't think they really got that much return on their PR dollar.
