[net.audio] Need advice on car stereo

if you're willing to spend the money,
i would highly recommend ANY car speakers by ADS. i have personal
experience with the 300i and 320i, and the sound is superb. the 300i's
are about 5 x 8 inches, and require a hole only for the woofer magnet,
about 3-4 inches in diameter. the 320i's have much more mounting
flexibility, being separates. i have the 5" woofers near the bottom
front of my doors and the 1" dome tweeters just below the side windows.
there are separate, large crossovers that can be hidden under the dash.
raising the tweeters really helps the imaging. all ADS speakers are
supplied with tweeter fusing. they can handle quite a bit of power,
and i have been satisfied using a sony xr-55 (no longer available), which
has about 10 W RMS per channel -- note this is not the "peak power" often
quoted in car audio.

Try ADS-320i speakers. They give surprising base response
and because the tweeters can be placed up on the dash very good
treble response and imaging as well. The woofer can be mounted in
a variety of ways to require very little mounting depth. The tweeters
can also be sunk into the dash (or top of a door) with optional
mounting cups. The 320i system includes 2 woofers, 2 tweeters,
2 crossovers and wiring. The sound is truely outstanding in it's
clarity and inaging. The price (around Denver) is about $300-$325
depending how good a deal you can get. Unfortunately the speakers
are power hungry and you will need an amplifier. I would recommend
either the ADS or Kenwood amps for good clean power.
