Ok. This article on "whispering ghosts" regarding disc pre-echo shows the need for a new newsgroup in net.audio, namely net.audio.query, for questions about equipment, problems with equipment, questions regarding obscure audio effects, etc. I feel that the time has come, with the 23'rd rerunning of the groove echo question, and the beginning of a spate of "authoritive answers". I feel that there is a need for a newsgroup which can be used by those who wish to ask questions and give answers, ESPECIALLY recurrant questions and answers. Perhaps there is a need for a net.audio nettiquette document that lists the 25 most common questions (or something like that) that is always put at the beginning of the net.audio articles, and that doesn't expire, thus providing a set of answers for the newcomer. (Query to nettrash hackers--It that possible? I know that there are some newuser announcements, but I don't know if we can put one in net.audio.) I don't read net.news.group. (Just for your own info.) Mail (at alice!jj) with a one or two word message, i.e. "yes", "no", "yes, but" etc, etc, will be counted. Flames, insults, diatribes, and the like will be left unread past the first line that makes the flame/etc obvious. Oh yes, as regards the "whispering ghosts" or GROOVE ECHO. It has been shown, both in this newsgroup, and in real life (please note the two distinct catagories) that the pre-echo you hear on a disc is ALMOST ALWAYS due to PLASTIC DEFORMATION in the shellac master that is used to generate discs.
