[net.audio] splitting net.audio

jj@alice.UUCP (01/02/85)

Well, things have died down now, and I hereby report the following:

1) There were 31 responses to splitting net.audio into
	net.audio
	net.audio.query

2) There were two significant groups of replies:
	a) Among net.news.group readers who appear not to read net.audio,
there were 19 responses, 17 NO and 2 Yes. Nine of the messages I got
had appended a comment that there should be NO new newsgroups, a comment that
I will allow to stand for itself. <or fall, perhaps?>
	b) Among net.audio readers, there were (surprise) 12 responses,
9 YES and 3 NO.

I really can't say what this consists of as far as a mandate, since two of
the No's were of the "I want to see the high-end stuff" class, something that
isn't affected by the suggested change at all, and especially since most of
the replies (and most of the negative replies) came from people outside
the newsgroup.

I guess that since the members of the newsgroup don't have much to say,
and since the people who aren't affected have lots, and all bad, that
I'll give the idea up and unsubscribe to net.audio, since I don't have
time to read all the re-hashed questions.

Gene Spafford has replied to my comments about "netiquette", and says
that a net.audio section of netiquette is probably appropriate. I don't
think it's proper for me to singlehandedly generate such a document, so
I will converse with a few of the more prominant net.audio-(phile/phobe)s
as far as what represents a set of commonly asked questions and a set
of reprentitive answers. Toward that end, I am specifically asking
TRBuckley,PMR,RCD,Wm Leler,RFGrantges, and one other person whose name escapes
me at the moment to send me a short list of commonly asked questions
that generate controversy and are generally resolved. Among those
that come to mind are 1) Groove echo/print through, 2) cables (as regards
low/high end cables, I intend to include the various viewpoints in whatever
document is generated), 3) scorn and insult in general regarding those
who hear things in different ways.

jj says he/she doesn't "have time to read all the rehashed questions,"
so he/she is unsubscribing to net.audio. I thought most sites, at a
minimum, honored the "n" key (next item, please, I don't want to read
this one) and that many more provide the means to preview headers and
get rid of unwanted messages before reading.

Si? No?
