[] Continuing my series on cd prices and the difficulty of obtaining what you want (two earlier epistles dealt with my attempts to buy from Tower Records): Well, just before Xmas the retail price here in NJ finally did come down to match the widely reported drop in wholesale price. For at least two weeks or more Sam Goody stores sold all cd's at $12.99 each. They had a big stock, too, because prior to that they did all they reasonably could to discourage any sales at all. Guess I must have bought around 15 discs from them and a few elsewhere. Wow! Nirvana! Some of these were just great. In fact some that I bought for others were super and I decided I would buy a copy for myself after xmas. What do you know? Yes, you guessed it...after xmas, prices have gone right back up into the stratosphere ($17.99 and higher). Insanity prevails. At least there is evidence for price elasticity. Before xmas the counters were mobbed. After xmas turnover is down to near zero again. I guess I can wait, but it's hard....hard. "It's the thought, if any, that counts."
