I'm currently looking for my "last" turntable (under the assumption that
I'll soon have a CD and will be buying/playing fewer albums). I want a
very high-quality table, at least semi-automatic (I'm lazy!).
The most attractive one I've found so far is the Thorens TD146. Does
anyone out there have any comments/experiences with this table, the
TP 11 Mk III arm (weight-and-string anti-skate), or Thorens in general?
I'm also trying to decide what cartridge to put in it. The store is
pushing Adcom "high-output" moving-coil cartridges, which are supposed
to work OK with a standard (i.e. moving-magnet) preamp. Is anyone
familiar with these cartridges? Unfortunately the store doesn't have
a real extensive selection of cartridges to choose from. I haven't had
time to sit down and seriously audition the Adcom yet, but I thought I
would see if anyone else knew anything about it.
Thanks in advance for any help. Please respond BY MAIL -- our news
connection has been VERY sporadic lately. (I'm not even positive this
note will make it OUT!)
