[.] The problem is that many of our experts have forgotten more than most others will ever know. Sometimes they have forgotten more than <they> will ever know. Other experts, the ones who work on the cutting edge (to coin a phrase), find it tedious and difficult to phrase an explanation that would be understandable to the multitudes. -- "It's the thought, if any, that counts!" I'm afraid that I, in too many instances, fall into Dick's second category.
On reflection (no Nyquistian pun intended) I'm afraid if my ill-considered
outburst ("only authoritative, guaranteed 100% correct spoutings on Usenet,
all others to be humble petitioners") were granted, we'd have lost what makes
net such an appealing *social* forum (at least for me), one where anyone can
pipe up and enjoy the resulting melee and no one need fear instantaneous
authoritative get-to-the-back-of-the-class squelching. Not to mention the
certainty that I'd be among the first to make an irretrievable fool of myself.
Contritely (no longer grumpy)
