[net.audio] What ever happen to CD-4

turek@brl-tgr.ARPA (C. A. Turek <turek>) (01/21/85)

Having recently move into a new home, and finding some things I'd
completely forgotten about' I decided to play some of my old QUADRADISK
recordings. I dug out my trusty Audio-technica AT12S stylus and let it
roll. Ahh, the good old days! My faithful AKAI AS-980 still produced
that incredible swirling sound on BLACK WATER and STILL CRAZY AFTER ALL
THESE YEARS almost dumped me on my tukus (sic)!

Enough of this reminiscence!! The death-nell for Quadraphonic sound
was struck by countless rip-off manufacturers of low-fi audio equipment
that put four speakers on some junk "stereo" and called it QUAD. Pity!

Let's get down to the problem at hand. Does anyone out in net-land
know of a source for the few Quad (CD-4,SQ,QS) recordings still around
and more important (to me) a source for a Shibata cartridge capable of
reproducing that sound from long ago?

To hatch crow, a black rainbow
                Bent in emptiness
			   over emptiness
		But flying
