[net.audio] Query: cassette record level

doug@terak.UUCP (Doug Pardee) (01/21/85)

Why don't I know the answer to this???

When I set the record level on my cassette system, should I set the
peak peaks to the specified level, or should I set it so that the
ordinary all-the-time peaks are at that level?

It makes a 10 to 20 db difference with some material.

If it matters, the deck in question is a Technics RS-B48R, which
uses fluorescent level (FL) indicators with 1-second peak hold.
The accompanying literature specifies that the level should be set
at +4 db for type 1 and type 2 tape, with or without dolby(tm)
B or C. Add +2 db for metal tape. Add +2 db for dbx(tm).

Mail or post replies, I'll summarize for the net.
