I am currently helping out a friend of mine that teaches piano
and is using his Sony SL-2700 Beta Hi-Fi to make live recordings
of his senior students work for posterity. The camera we are
using is a the top of the line Canon which I can't recall the
model number for. We have a six channel mixer and have been renting
a number of different microphones. We were hoping that someone
on the net could help us solve several of our unresolved problems.
(1) The camera and the recorder are not totaly compatible, in that
we cannot use the normal remote recording features of either.
We have been forced to use the video input on the back of the
recorder. This prevents the use of fades etc. Is there
an adapter that can be purchased that will allow the direct
connection of the camera to the Sony camera input, with
proper signal conditioning to allow use of some of the
remote features -- even pause would be nice? If not, does
anyone have the pin-outs, with signal levels, etc. for the
Canon or the Sony, from which we could fabricate our own interface.
(2) If we use the camera input on the sony, we are forced to use
the hi-z microphone inputs on the front of the deck ( 1/8 inch
phono plugs -- yuk!!!!). Is there anyway to bypass these,
and route all audio in from rear panel relatively low-z inputs.
Methods which require invalidation of the warranty need not
be excluded, provided a source of circuit diagrams and layouts
is available.
(3) Recomendations for microphones and placement of same, for
recording classical music on a 6' Yamaha would also appretiated.
(4) He is planning on purchasing the Canon portable VHS Hi-Fi in the
near future to use in the same way -- any comments.
Thanks
