[net.audio] Audio stores losing business?

rcd@opus.UUCP (Dick Dunn) (02/23/85)

I've noticed that three fairly large, heretofore fairly successful local
audio stores (actually groups of stores in two cases) have gone out of
business lately. I'm wondering if this is just a local coincidence, an
effect of the local economy (say, due to the loss of 5000+ hi-tech jobs in
the area in the past year), or something occurring elsewhere as well.
Anyone out there have any general info on consumer audio that might shed
some light?

The stores which cashed in have been in the range beyond what you see in
department/appliance stores, but not really high end. For example, their
mainstays seem to be H-K, Technics, JVC, Sony, Pioneer, Sansui, Polk, etc.,
but not Nakamichi, Revox, Levinson, Acoustat.

...Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it's been.
